Description

Create beautiful, colorful suncatchers with your kids using cornstarch, water, and food coloring. A fun and engaging crafting project to brighten your home.

Materials

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 3 cups water
  • Food coloring
  • Plastic wrap or wax paper
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Mix the base: In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of cornstarch and 3 cups of water. Stir to dissolve the cornstarch completely.
  2. Heat the mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens, resembling pudding. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Divide and color: Once cool, divide into bowls and add food coloring to each, mixing well.
  4. Prepare your work surface: Lay out sheets of plastic wrap or wax paper.
  5. Paint your design: Use a paintbrush to spread the colored mixture onto the plastic wrap in creative shapes.
  6. Dry the suncatchers: Let them dry overnight until more transparent and solid.
  7. Cut and display: Peel off the suncatchers, cut into shapes if desired, and hang in windows.

Notes

Encourage kids to be creative with colors and patterns, and supervise when using hot surfaces.
